How well can the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

One of the more powerful mid range graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition might struggle sometimes with the more system demanding game requirements. DirectX 12 gaming system requirements will be met by this gpu.

What FPS performance can the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition get on latest AAA 2019 games? In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. When considering how well this graphics card can run the 1000 most demanding games available today it can best 244 of the games’ recommended graphics requirements.

Running at 1080p this card gets a strong frame rate from FIFA 20 with 86 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Borderlands 3 which returns a weak 19 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular eFootball PES 2020 which we saw getting a reasonable 47 FPS.

Increasing resolution to 1440p is something a number of PC gamers are doing today. We tested the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition at 1440p with FIFA 20, which got a good set of FPS results. These were, Low: 147 FPS, Medium: 122 FPS, High: 90 FPS and Ultra: 65 FPS. We then checked out Borderlands 3 which had a set of graphics results as followed, L: 37FPS, M: 29FPS, H: 20FPS, U: 14FPS. And another popular game was eFootball PES 2020 that returned L: 94FPS, M: 74FPS, H: 50FPS, U: 35FPS at 1440p. Gaming at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition in your PC? Our current calculations suggest a graphics card upgrade will be required in around 12-18 months

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB Edition? A great upgrade graphics card would be a 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, which has 107% better performance and can run 897 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today. Alternatively a good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 52% better and can meet 668 of their recommended requirements.
