25 Mar 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB Edition graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2020. In particular we focus on how well the GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB Edition runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. This graphics hardware can run 600 of the 1000 most demanding PC games played today.

The GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB Edition graphics card is predicted to return a weak performance on Grand Theft Auto VI at 1080p of 12 frames per second at Ultra graphics settings. Another popular title that is good to benchmark graphics cards against is Star Citizen which we predict will get good frame rates of 61 FPS. A third game we can look at on Ultra at 1080p is the popular Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which was getting 53 FPS under tests.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We predict the GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB Edition will run the upcoming game Grand Theft Auto VI to a weak performance level. Predictions across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 23 FPS, Medium: 18 FPS, High: 12 FPS and Ultra: 9 FPS. Another game researched was Star Citizen with predictions of L: 123FPS, M: 97FPS, H: 65FPS, U: 47FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which returned L: 107FPS, M: 84FPS, H: 57FPS, U: 40FPS at 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4GB Edition, this is a reasonable choice for most modern games at 1440p, but you may encounter some need to adjust graphics settings down from Ultra to High in some cases to improve gaming stability.
