How well can the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Gamers upgrading will be considering the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition graphics card as a serious price to performance entry point. This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

Game performance for the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition where we look at the bigger games played in 2019. Looking closely at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 857.

A GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition card at 1080p is predicted to see a playable frame rate when running Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra - 39 FPS. Lets look at the performance its getting on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which is 50 FPS. To add a bit more variety lets see how the popular Red Dead Redemption 2 performs on this hardware, which gets a reasonable 53 FPS.

As the PC gaming masses explore larger screen resolutions we decided to run some game checks at 1440p across a few popular games. We predict the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition will run the upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 to a playable performance level. Predictions across the graphics settings looked like this, Low: 78 FPS, Medium: 61 FPS, High: 41 FPS and Ultra: 29 FPS. Another game tested was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, L: 100FPS, M: 79FPS, H: 53FPS, U: 38FPS. And then we checked graphics card performance on Red Dead Redemption 2, which returned L: 107FPS, M: 84FPS, H: 57FPS, U: 40FPS at 1440p. 1440p gaming on the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition is not a bad choice for a larger screen size like this. Some games will struggle though, but with some careful graphic option adjustments in-game you can normally find a suitable visual experience with this GPU at 1440p.

How many years will the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition in your PC? This gpu has around 2+ years of running AAA recommended system requirements before any upgrades should be considered.

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the GeForce GTX 980 Galax SOC 4GB Edition? A good upgrade choice for this graphics card today would be the 20 Series GeForce RTX 2060 3GB GDDR5. For comparison of the 1000 most demanding games around today this suggested upgrade is 22% better and can meet 901 of their recommended requirements. Alternatively we would suggest getting a R-500 Series Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB, as it can run 962 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 26% increased graphics performance.
