This card will meet and play most demanding AAA games and do so with good graphics setting as standard, and confidently pushing past the recommended game system requirements needed to run today’s games. This card meets game requirements up to DirectX 12.

In particular our game review looks at the FPS achieved running on Ultra graphics settings on the 1080p screen resolution as well as 1440p and 4K. This card runs recommended graphics requirements of 856 games from the top 1000 most demanding games being played today.

Running at 1080p this card gets a strong frame rate from FIFA 20 with 146 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Red Dead Redemption 2 which returns a reasonable 53 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which we saw getting a reasonable 49 FPS.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we ran FIFA 20 on the GeForce GTX 980 MSI Gaming 4GB Edition to see that it got a strong set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra results at 1440p - L: 251FPS, M: 209FPS, H: 154FPS, U: 112FPS. Another popular game to test at 1440p with this card was Red Dead Redemption 2 which seemed playable in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 40 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare where its Ultra 1440p Frame rates were playable at 37 FPS. Running games at 1440p with a GeForce GTX 980 MSI Gaming 4GB Edition is a solid performer with higher resolution modern gaming. This graphics card can also bump up to 4K gaming regularly with the latest games still being capable of high or ultra graphics settings at this level.

Overview
GeForce GTX 980 MSI Gaming 4GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's high-end GeForce GTX 980 4GB created by MSI. It features a new Cooling Solution and overclocking out of the box. Read below to know more.


Overclock Out of The Box
The Central Unit now runs at 1216MHz, instead of 1126MHz. Boost Clock is now of 1317MHz, instead of 1216MHz. Memory Clock was left untouched.


Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by MSI's Twin Frozr V Dual Fan Cooling Solution. This means the card runs cooler under load.


Power Consumption
According to MSI, the rated board TDP is now higher and of 178W. A 500W PSU with at least 2 8-pin available recommended is required.


Release Price
GeForce GTX 980 MSI Gaming 4GB Edition was released for $579.99. $30 more than the reference Graphics Card. .


Performance
At 3K, Benchmarks indicate a 9% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 980 4GB. Therefore, GeForce GTX 980 MSI Gaming 4GB Edition is significantly faster than Dual GeForce GTX 690.
