22 Jan 2021 - Graphics card reviewed

While some games have more powerful requirements than this GPU, the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition is only really challenged by the most demanding games released today, but normally it is more than capable of running games with a stable frame rate at 1080p. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2021. When considering how well this graphics card can run the 1000 most demanding games available today it can best 130 of the games’ recommended graphics requirements.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Assassins Creed: Valhalla and saw it deliver playable frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 58 FPS, Medium: 50 FPS, High: 43 FPS and Ultra: 29 FPS. We proceeded to look at Battlefield 6 to see how that compared and predict that it will return a playable 31 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Assassins Creed: Valhalla to see how the GeForce GTX 780 MSI Gaming 6GB Edition dealt with it. It scored up a weak series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 45 FPS, Medium: 38 FPS, High: 33 FPS and Ultra: 22 FPS. Next we looked at Battlefield 6 which we predict will be weak with a 23 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at FIFA 21 that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 93. Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by MSI's Twin Frozr cooler which uses a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition..

Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 3% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 780 6GB.
