How well can the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition run games
28 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Getting one of these Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition graphics cards allows the gamer to run indie system requirements and some less demanding AAA titles. In today’s PC hardware terms these are considered middle range for gaming performance. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2019. In particular we focus on how well the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. In comparison to the game recommended requirements of the 1000 most demanding games played today this PC hardware can run 118.

Running at 1080p this card is predicted to get a weak frame rate from Microsoft Flight Simulator with 0 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Cyberpunk 2077 which is predicted to return a weak 0 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Halo: Reach which we saw getting a strong 90 FPS.

Moving screen sizes up to 1440p we researched Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition and predict it will get a weak set of frame rates. Here are the low to ultra predictions at 1440p - L: 0FPS, M: 0FPS, H: 0FPS, U: 0FPS. Another popular game to investigate at 1440p with this card was Cyberpunk 2077 which we predicted will be weak in performance netting an Ultra FPS of 0 FPS. Finally we then took a look at Halo: Reach where its Ultra 1440p Frame rates were good at 69 FPS. 1440p Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition PC gaming is in need of some graphics adjustments to get some stability, which means its not an ideal gaming resolution for this GPU.

How many years will the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition in your PC? Its time to start researching your next graphics card upgrade as the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition is failing to meet modern day gaming system requirements. Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition? Are you looking to upgrade a Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition? Then we would suggest getting a 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, as it can run 898 of the top 1000 demanding game requirements today with 134% increased graphics performance. Alternatively if you want an upgrade suggestion for the Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition then a good choice would be RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB as this is better than 671 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 72% better performance as well.

Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition Game Requirement Analysis

Radeon R9 280 Sapphire Dual-X OC 3GB Edition is a special edition of the high-end Radeon R9 280.
This edition comes with a custom cooling system, which reduces the card's temperature under load significantly and comes overclocked out of the box in the central unit that was increased from 827MHz to 850MHz, while the Boost clock is now of 940MHz. The operating memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a little to no performance boost over the standard edition and so GeForce GTX 760 is still more powerful.

I have the R9 280 for about a year now and it is absolutely great! The sapphire version is perfect, really well cooled, rarely goes above 80C on demanding games like Witcher 3, GTA V etc. With a i5 it would be a blast, trust me!

Got it for 200€ on a discount. I'm completely blown by it's performance and temperatures. In this case, you get way more than you pay for. Can run Watch Dogs on ultra settings at 35-40 FPS reaching 65c and still remaining silent. And of course it handles every single game at ultra settings easily (except the ones that are poorly optimized). Probably high to ultra settings on demanding games for the next 2 years.
