14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

Getting one of these GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition graphics cards allows the gamer to run indie system requirements and some less demanding AAA titles. In today’s PC hardware terms these are considered middle range for gaming performance. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here we take a closer look at the various performances across 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions for the GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition. In particular this is looking at the Ultra graphics settings to see what sort of FPS this graphics card can get across some of the more popular games played in 2019. The GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition can run the recommended graphics system requirements for 208 games today, of the top 1000 most demanding.

First we looked at 1080p resolution for the GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition performance to explore what sort of benchmarks it would achieve on the popular title Borderlands 3 and saw it deliver weak frames per second across the following graphics settings - Low: 38 FPS, Medium: 30 FPS, High: 20 FPS and Ultra: 15 FPS. We proceeded to look at FIFA 20 to see how that compared and saw that it returned a strong 82 FPS at Ultra 1080p.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Borderlands 3 to see how the GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition dealt with it. It scored up a weak series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 29 FPS, Medium: 23 FPS, High: 15 FPS and Ultra: 11 FPS. Next we looked at FIFA 20 which was good with a 62 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Diablo 4 that we predict will get an Ultra 1440p FPS of 0. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition, this is not going to be able to keep stable frame rates at all times at Ultra 1440p on modern games.

GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition Game Requirement Analysis

GeForce GTX 760 Asus ROG Striker Platinum Edition is a special edition of GeForce GTX 760.
This edition comes with a custom dual-fan cooling solution which by itself should allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 760 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 980MHz to 1085MHz while its boost clock is now of 1150MHz. The memory clock was left untouched.
Furthermore, the frame buffer was doubled to 4GB though this will not boost its performance and can be addressed as a gimmick - marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.
Benchmarks indicate a 9% performance boost when compared to the reference card and so this edition performs better than GeForce GTX 670.

I would not say the double frame buffer is a gimmick, some next gen titles require more than 2gb of vram. Watch dogs needs 3gb+ of gpu vram to play on ultra. The consoles have unified memory unlike pc so I predict future games are going need more dedicated vram from the graphics card to play on ultra at 1080p

That's true, but this card is unable to use the extra VRAM. That's why they call it a gimmick.

This card can use the extra VRAM, it has used it all in next gen games and used 3GB on BF4. It certainly isn't a gimmick
