14 Oct 2020 - Graphics card reviewed

The Radeon R9 295X2 will blast beyond the majority of games requirements at 1080p, so crank up your screen resolution to 1440p or 4K and let the beautiful AAA game visuals wash over you. This is how gaming is meant to be played but you are likely to have to pay top dollar for the Radeon R9 295X2 privilege. But if you can get this graphics solution, then its happy gaming. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

We take a look at game performance achieved on this graphics card when running 2020 popular games. This short Radeon R9 295X2 game hardware review looks at the graphics card frame rate performance on Ultra graphics settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K screen resolutions. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 824 games in todays list.

Running at 1080p this card is predicted to get a playable frame rate from Grand Theft Auto VI with 39 FPS on Ultra. Then we take a look at Phasmophobia which returns a good 75 FPS. Another title that we looked at is the popular Watch Dogs Legion which we predict will get a good 63 FPS.

People are turning their increasingly more powerful graphics cards to the popular 1440p screen size so we tested the Radeon R9 295X2 to see how it performs on 1440p. First off we have researched Grand Theft Auto VI and predict it will be playable. The frame rates predicted for the game presets were - Low: 78 FPS, Medium: 61 FPS, High: 41 FPS and Ultra: 29 FPS. We added Phasmophobia to our tests and saw it was reasonable with a 57 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And then researched Watch Dogs Legion leading us to predict 48 FPS at Ultra 1440p. After a look at the popular games running at 1440p with the Radeon R9 295X2, this is certainly capable of running larger monitor gaming at Ultra or High graphics settings.

Radeon R9 295X2 Game Requirement Analysis

Overview
Radeon R9 295X2 is a Dual-Graphics Solution based on the First Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 revision of the Graphics Core Next Architecture adds new important technologies and is largely oriented for energy efficiency. New technologies such as PowerTune and TrueAudio are the biggest additions as well as DirectX 11.2 support.

GPU
It equips two GPUs Codenamed Hawaii XT which together have 128 Compute Units activated and thus offer 5632 Shader Processing Units, 352 TMUs and 128 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 1018MHz.

Memory
Each GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5 Memory, through a 512-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1250MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 500W, it requires at least a 850W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
Radeon R9 295X2 Competes with GeForce GTX Titan Z and proves to be much faster than the latter, especially at 4K.
Radeon R9 295X2 is the fastest Dual Graphics Solution as of June of 2015.

System Suggestions
Radeon R9 295X2 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a Very Strong Processor (Intel Core i7 Quad Core/AMD FX Eight Core) and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
