Radeon HD 4870 Game Requirement Analysis

Radeon HD 4870 is a high-end GPU based on the 55nm, third unified shader architecture, R700.
It's based on the RV770 PRO Core and offers 800 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs a 256-bit memory interface of fast GDDR5. The central unit runs at 750MHz and the memory clock runs at up to 900MHz.
Compared to Radeon HD 4890, it offers slightly less bandwidth (thanks to the higher operating memory clock), the central unit is lower clocked and features twice as less video memory. However, it only consumes up to 150W (40W less). The performance difference between is not very significant and so Radeon HD 4870 might be the best choice, over 4890 since it can be easily overclocked.
Most of today's modern games should run fluently at high settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.

hi, i bought a second hand HD 4870. I have a dual core Intel E2220 @2.4 GHz and a 2GB DDR2 RAM. Screen resolution: 1366 x 768. Will the processor be a bottleneck? Also, shall i be able to play latest games(except Crysis 3) in high settings?

The only game I'm aware of that demands DX11 is Crysis 3, everything else still supports DX10 or even 9. Of course this may change over the next couple of years.

I had a delay in getting my new video card when I 1st built my new rig so I had to use my old rig's 4870 for a bit.
But when paired with the new i7 3770K and DDR3 2133 ram it was able to keep 25 - 30+ fps in Skyrim maxed settings 1080p and with the high rez packs..
It was almost pushed to tears, pinned at no less then 99%+ load and heating up like a space heater doing it but it worked lol. Not bad for its age at all =P

Is there going to be a bottleneck between this and intel core 2 duo e6500?And if there will be,would it be better to take a weaker gpu or to overclock the cpu?

There will be a bottleneck in some games .. but not really big, the settings in games can be adjusted so cpu won't be stressed too much, also you can slighty overclock it. Get this gpu, is a really good idea, make sure ur PSU got at least 32 amperes on 12v rail. A weaker psu could burn parts of the system.

The consensus I've come to understand is: games with big maps and lots of players, MMO's generally and few richly designed games METRO2033 or CRYSIS will be affected by CPU, otherwise NO.
