Overview
Radeon HD 8830M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture.
Architecture
The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology.
GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Venus LE which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 575MHz and goes up to 625MHz, in Turbo Mode.
Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1000MHz.
Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.
Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 35W, it is suited for 15" or larger laptops.
Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance somewhat above NVIDIA's GeForce GT 645M.
System Suggestions
We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8830M.
