How well can the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition run games
14 Nov 2019 - Graphics card reviewed

This graphics card offers upper mid level gaming performance. The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition GPU could struggle if it was to try and run the most demanding games available today, but it meets a lot of game system requirements found in today’s games. Capable of running games with up to a DirectX 11 requirement.

Here is a quick game performance synopsis for the AAA games played in 2019. In particular we focus on how well the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition runs at Ultra graphics settings and what frames per second it is getting at 1080p, 1440p and 4K monitor resolutions. Of the 1000 most demanding recommended specs found in game requirements today, this gpu is more powerful than the graphics requirement of 341 games in todays list.

A Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition card at 1080p is seeing a playable frame rate when running Planet Zoo on Ultra - 26 FPS. Lets look at the predicted performance it will get on Death Stranding which is 3 FPS. To add a bit more variety lets see how the popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare performs on this hardware, which gets a playable 31 FPS.

Next up we increase screen res tests to accommodate the growing in popularity 1440p screen size. So we booted up Planet Zoo to see how the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition dealt with it. It scored up a weak series of FPS results across these graphics presets - Low: 51 FPS, Medium: 40 FPS, High: 27 FPS and Ultra: 19 FPS. Next we looked at Death Stranding which we predict will be weak with a 2 FPS at Ultra 1440p. And finally looked at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that got an Ultra 1440p FPS of 23. Gaming at 1440p with the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition is not ideal and its more advisable to run modern games at 1080p resolution. But if you really want to play games at 1440p then you will likely have to make some graphical adjustments to improve game FPS stability.

How many years will the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition graphics card play newly released games and how long until you should consider upgrading the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition in your PC? 12-18 months of top end gaming is still left in this graphics card

Whats a good PC graphics upgrade for the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition? A good choice when looking to upgrade the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition would be the 16 Series GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB which meets 901 of the 1000 top game’s recommended system requirements and has 86% better performance. Alternatively if you want an upgrade suggestion for the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition then a good choice would be RX 5000 Series Radeon RX 5500 4GB as this is better than 685 of the top 1000 most demanding game requirements with 37% better performance as well.

Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition Game Requirement Analysis

Radeon HD 7970 GHz Matrix Platinum Edition is a special edition of Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition.
The new features include a core-clock raise from 1000MHz to 1050MHz (and 1100MHz in Turbo Mode) while the operating memory clock was increased from 1500MHz to 1650MHz. A new cooling system called DirectCU II was installed which should keep Radeon HD 7970's temperatures low under extreme loading while producing less noise.
The performance boost is around 3% when compared to standard Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition despite its extreme memory overclock which does not boost its performance.

I would like too know for a 7970 how much bandwidth is too much. I oc my 7970's memory to 1575mhz and gpu-z says 302gb/s I figured that is plenty. I know it can go higher what I would like too know is how much is too much to the point were the 7970 couldn't use it. I tried google couldn't find much didn't look to hard though figured I might get a better answer here.

Im not a fan of either company (NVIDIA Or AMD) but this is one of the best single gpus I've seen. Really in some benchmarks it even goes ahead gtx 690 (I've seen some benchmarks in techpowerup).

That article is terrible. The 7970 outperforms the 680 in their own benchmarks then they rate the 7970 a 6 and a 680 a 9. What?

Look silviku92, you are weirdly defensive about your card. Sorry its simply not the best single card around, it is however a very very good card. I'm not sure why you feel the need to convince everyone that it is the best card in the world. Why can't you be happy that you have a a very powerful card?

You continue to say the same thing while ignoring actual tests. Its like dealing with a brick wall. What do you have to say about this article? Also why would I be defensive, I don't own either card. You are the one who keeps crying about your card not being the top.
