Overview
GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 4GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Performance GeForce GTX 960 2GB, created by Asus.
Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 1253MHz, instead of 1127MHz and goes up to 1316MHz, in Turbo Mode.
Overclock: Memory Clock
The Operating Memory Clock remains the same while the Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered marketing to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.
Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by Asus's DirectCU II cooling technology which outperforms reference designs with an exclusive 10mm heatpipe that transports 40% more heat away from the GPU.
Performance
Benchmarks indicate a 5% performance over the reference GeForce GTX 960 2GB.

Will this gpu work with my current psu and cpu? (Cooler Master Elite Power 500W)
Thanks in advance!
Yes it will :)
Will this work with my cpu? :D
your cpu will bottleneck this gpu
hey would this card bottleneck with an i3 4130 no oc or anything else with a 450w lepa power supply
will be ok
can my power supply handle this card? i have 320 watt power supply, no cd-rom or extra overclocking equipment.
i dnt think so.. u need at least 450w ps..
ok, Thanks.
getting a ton of fps with batman arkham knight on medium settings having v-sync enabled.Frickin love this card
great card for price 235 €
Can I safely use it with my Thermaltake Litepower 450w PSU? And will it bottleneck with my CPU?
yes that psu is more then enough for your setup… about bottleneck it may be present in some havy cpu demanding games but not by that much
You should get GeForce GTX 960 Asus Strix DirectCU II OC 2GB instead, for 4GB will only benefit from SLI.
Thanks, :) and sorry for late replay.
You're welcome :)
Thanks.
Been using it for a few weeks now, decent GPU for gamers looking to play GTA V, Witcher 3, Far Cry 4 etc. on high-Ultra with atleast 50fps.Gamers looking for more should get a 970 or a R9 390.
very bad GPU
why is that?? your own is not even close to this in performance.
4GB vram on 128bit bus hahaha :D.
This gpu is joke.
rly ? what's bad about it ? I want to get this graphic card so tell me if t's bad
Read the description buddy.
(..) the Frame Buffer was doubled to 4GB: a gimmick which doesn't yield any performance boost and can be considered market to lure consumers into paying more for the same product.
Not always, AC unity and far cry 4 does benefit from it.
See for yourself http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1888-evga-supersc-4gb-960-benchmark-vs-2gb/Page-2
They are comparing an Asus GTX 960 2GB with a EVGA GTX 960 4GB. That is not a valid comparison.
also marketing ;)
They are nearly identical, nothing wrong there.
No they're not. EVGA's higher clocked and even it weren't, the voltage and temperature affect the max boost. That review is faulty.
Bro, You think this card will use 4GB? Even gtx970 (256BIT BUS!!!!) has trouble and only 3.5GB works fine, the last 512mb is slow. So i don't believe gtx960 can use more then 2-2.5GB…
Absolutely True.
In the circumstances in which 4GB are needed, the GPU itself (Maxwell GM206-300-A1) is not powerful enough. That's the main problem.
It's like saying you have a large warehouse at the end of the highway waiting to be filled but the lanes are so tight (memory bandwidth) and the cards are so slow (GPU) that you can never really fill the warehouse at convenient time.
Yup.
so is it worth getting or not ?
Of course not, you will pay for 4GB but you can use only 2.
No, get the 2gb version and save your money.
and what do you guys think of the msi gtx960 with 4gb vram ?
again it's the same card, different cooler, cooler brand and different 3rd party brand, but it's the same card, save your money and buy the 2gb Version.
ok and thanks :)
no problems :)
I'm gonna have to disagree with the "gimmick" blanket statement being tossed around on GD. In some rare isolated cases the extra frame buffer does help in some games for texture memory sizes. A really good example for this is the game Watch dogs. Having that extra 2GB allows for in-game settings to "high" as apposed to Medium without stuttering… So to give it a blanket statement like this is actually misleading in itself. GD needs to review this policy imo…
not exactly, because the gpu can't use more than 2GB of Vram, or in other words, it can't access all of them at full speed(like the gtx 970's 3.5GB out of 4GB) or at all at the same time, which renders them useless.
Well it actually happened for that game…Explain why then…
This is not a policy it's more like physics. Now I've seen quite a few benchmarks on the gtx960 2gb vs 4gb including frame-times / frame latency, never heard or seen that phenomenon
I actually have a blog on watch dogs and this very issue. Have a looksee: Link
have you tried the game since then?
In games with diretx12 lot of RAM is needed. Forza motorsport 6 Apex is an example. The gtx 960 4 gb VRAM advantage playing at ultra.
A game does NOt determine how much Vram a GPU can get extra performance from, the bandwidth and overall performance of the GPU does.
Guys I bought this and the 4GB frame buffer is perfectly validated.
GTA V, Batman Arkham Knight and some other games go beyond 2GB on my card (even 3.5+GB)and I keep textures and details at max at 1080p with AA on with no stuttering.
And there was people saying that this gpu is a waste because it don´t use all of its vram xD.
