In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7850M are significantly better than the Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD 7850M was released over three years more recently than the Quadro FX 3700M, and so the Radeon HD 7850M is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Quadro FX 3700M when running the latest games.

The Radeon HD 7850M has 1024 MB more video memory than the Quadro FX 3700M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Radeon HD 7850M also has superior memory performance overall.

The Radeon HD 7850M has 12.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Quadro FX 3700M, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD 7850M is slightly better than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD 7850M has 640 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro FX 3700M has 128. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 7850M is 367 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro FX 3700M is 70. The Radeon HD 7850M having 297 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD 7850M delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD 7850M transistor size technology is 37 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro FX 3700M. This means that the Radeon HD 7850M is expected to run much cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD 7850M requires 40 Watts to run and the Quadro FX 3700M requires 75 Watts. The Quadro FX 3700M requires 35 Watts more than the Radeon HD 7850M to run. The difference is significant enough that the Quadro FX 3700M may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Radeon HD 7850M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 7850M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the First revision of the GCN Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN Architecture succeeds the 40nm Terascale Architecture. In addition to being produced with a 28nm Technology, the GCN Architecture adds other Technologies that allow for energy efficiency. For example, ZeroCore Power, a long idle power saving technology, allows the Graphics Cards to shut down by itself when the Monitor is turned off.
GCN also adds Improved Anisotropic Filtering, DirectX 11 Tessellation and the Partially Resident Textures (PRT) Technology, which enables future games to utilize ultra-high resolution textures with the same performance as today's small and often repetitive textures.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Heathrow Pro which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Operates at 675MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1000MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 40W, it is suited for 17" or larger laptops.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its on average with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 660M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 7850M.
The Quadro® FX 3700M high-end mobile workstation graphics solution with its revolutionary unified architecture, delivers 1 GB memory, excellent image quality, and optimized visual computing application performance pushing the limits of a 17" mobile workstation.
