In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Mobility FireGL V5700 are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS.

The Mobility FireGL V5700 was released less than a year after the GeForce 8600M GS, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The Mobility FireGL V5700 has 512 MB more video memory than the GeForce 8600M GS, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Mobility FireGL V5700 also has superior memory performance overall.

The memory bandwidth of the Mobility FireGL V5700 and the GeForce 8600M GS are the same, which means the Mobility FireGL V5700 and the GeForce 8600M GS have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.

The Mobility FireGL V5700 has 120 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 8600M GS has 16. However, the actual shader performance of the Mobility FireGL V5700 is 47 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 8600M GS is 10. The Mobility FireGL V5700 having 37 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Mobility FireGL V5700 delivers a marginally smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce 8600M GS.

The GeForce 8600M GS requires 18 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Mobility FireGL V5700.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewMobility FireGL V5700 is basically a tweaked Radeon HD Mobility 3650 with increased clock frequencies and special driver support for professional applications.
The performance is undoubtedly better than the Radeon HD Mobility 3650 but since it has no support for games, bugs and other things might occur if using it gaming.
GeForce 8600M GS is a middle class level GPU part of the 8000M Series released by NVIDIA, in 2007.
Very demanding games (e.g. Metro 2033, The Witcher 2) are most certainly unplayable and demanding games (e.g. Crysis 2, Skyrim V) might only be playable on the lowest settings. Moderate and less demanding games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops, should be playable smoothly at Medium settings.
