In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 6500 are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce 6100 nForce 405.

The 6100 nForce was released less than a year after the GeForce 6500, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 6500 has 256 MB video memory, but the 6100 nForce does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The GeForce 6100 nForce 405 has 2 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 6500 has 4. The two GPUs are based on different architectures, but deliver an equivalent shader performance. To compare, we must continue to look at the memory bandwidth, Texture and Pixel Rates. In this case, we sadly do not have enough data in this area to complete the comparison.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewThis GPU is the same as
GeForce 6100 nForce 405 is an integrated GPU (GeForce 6100, in this case) in a NVIDIA motherboard (nForce 405, in this case).
The old architecture, low specifications and the fact it only uses system memory, lead to very poor performance and so not recommended for today's gamers.
Therefore, only old games can be played at high settings with decent FPS while today's demanding games are unplayable.
The NVIDIA GeForce 6500 and 6200 graphics processing units (GPUs) featuring NVIDIA TurboCache technology take full advantage of the PCI Express bus to deliver the turbocharged system performance you need to play all the hottest games and applications.
