In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS are very slightly better than the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4350.

The Radeon HD was released over a year more recently than the GeForce 8600M GS, and so the Radeon HD is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce 8600M GS.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The Mobility Radeon HD 4350 and the GeForce 8600M GS have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GeForce 8600M GS has 12.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 8600M GS is slightly better than the Radeon HD.

The Mobility Radeon HD 4350 has 80 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 8600M GS has 16. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD is 26 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 8600M GS is 10. The Radeon HD having 16 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce 8600M GS performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Mobility Radeon HD 4350 requires 12 Watts to run and the GeForce 8600M GS requires 18 Watts. The GeForce 8600M GS requires 6 Watts more than the Radeon HD to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce 8600M GS to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon HD.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewMobility Radeon HD 4350 is an entry-class level GPU part of the Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series released by AMD in 2009/2010.
There are many versions available from GDDR3 (and DDR3) type to DDR2 and from a 64 bit bus to a 32 bit bus. This is the GDDR3 version with a 64 bits memory bus.
It only supports DirectX up to 10.1 so DirectX 11 games aren't supported. The performance should be enough to play demanding games like, Crysis 2, on the lowest settings but with unattractive resolutions while very demanding games, like Metro 2033, are probably unplayable to the lowest settings. Less demanding games should be playable on medium settings, depending on the resolution + DirectX version used.
GeForce 8600M GS is a middle class level GPU part of the 8000M Series released by NVIDIA, in 2007.
Very demanding games (e.g. Metro 2033, The Witcher 2) are most certainly unplayable and demanding games (e.g. Crysis 2, Skyrim V) might only be playable on the lowest settings. Moderate and less demanding games, like Call of Duty: Black Ops, should be playable smoothly at Medium settings.
