In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 4290 are significantly better than the Nvidia Quadro NVS 450.
The Quadro NVS 450 was released over a year more recently than the Radeon HD 4290, and so the Quadro NVS 450 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Radeon HD 4290.
Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.
The Quadro NVS 450 has 384 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 4290, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Quadro NVS 450 also has superior memory performance overall.
The Quadro NVS 450 has 11.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 4290, which means that the memory performance of the Quadro NVS 450 is slightly better than the Radeon HD 4290.
The Quadro NVS 450 has 16 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 4290 has 40. However, the actual shader performance of the Quadro NVS 450 is 9 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 4290 is 18. The Radeon HD 4290 having 9 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Quadro NVS 450 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The Quadro NVS 450 requires 35 Watts to run but there is no entry for the Radeon HD 4290. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Quadro NVS 450.

Mini Review | The NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450 multi-display business graphics solution delivers reliable hardware and software for a stable business environment. Proven on leading business applications, Quadro NVS 450 is capable of driving up to four ultra high resolution displays and is designed to meet the needs of today's most demanding business user. | Radeon HD 4290 (IGP) is an integrated GPU on the AMD 890GX Chipset. It's based on the RS880D Core and offers 40 Shader Processing Units, 4 TMUs and 4 ROPs a 32-bit memory interface of either DDR2 (more commonly) or DDR3. The central unit runs, commonly, at up to 700MHz and the memory clock's operating speed depends on the system RAM's speed. Radeon HD 4290's performance depends on the users system configuration which will define the operating memory clock's speed and on the desktop manufacturer which decides its central unit's speed. Therefore, Radeon HD 4290, even if paired with DDR3 won't offer similar performance to the dedicated Radeon HD 4350. DirectX 11 games aren't supported. |
