In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS are significantly better than the Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M 256MB GDDR3.

The GeForce 9500M GS was released less than a year after the NVS 140M, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very poor performance, so rather than upgrading from one to the other you should consider looking at more powerful GPUs. Neither of these will be able to run the latest games in any playable way.

The GeForce 9500M GS has 256 MB more video memory than the NVS 140M, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce 9500M GS also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce 9500M GS has 11.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the NVS 140M, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 9500M GS is slightly better than the NVS 140M.

The GeForce 9500M GS has 32 Shader Processing Units but the NVS 140M does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The Quadro NVS 140M 256MB GDDR3 requires 10 Watts to run and the GeForce 9500M GS requires 20 Watts. The GeForce 9500M GS requires 10 Watts more than the NVS 140M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce 9500M GS to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the NVS 140M.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewQuadro NVS 140M is a business card with support for special drivers that are certified for professional applications like Microsoft Office Suite, Hummingbird Exceed, Lotus Notes, etc. It's part of the Quadro NVS Mobile Series released by NVIDIA, in 2006/2007/2010.
Though business cards have no driver support for games, some of them deliver astonishing performance (e.g. Quadro 6000, Tesla C2075). Quadro NVS 140M, however, isn't one of them.
The performance is enough for all old games and some modern games like the Fifa Series but it's still incapable of playing today's games like Crysis 2 and Metro 2033, even at the lowest settings.
The NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS GPUs, deliver the ultimate balance between mobility and performance for astounding PureVideo HD technology playback capabilities combined with 3D features to enable visually-intense applications and games.
