In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 KFA2 EX Gamer White 24GB are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT.
The RX 5950 XT has a 195 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 3090, but the RTX 3090 has 160 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 5950 XT. As a result, the RTX 3090 exhibits a 194.4 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the RX 5950 XT. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The RX 5950 XT has a 195 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 3090, but the RTX 3090 has 32 more Render Output Units than the RX 5950 XT. As a result, the RTX 3090 exhibits a 32.7 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the RX 5950 XT. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The RTX 3090 was released less than a year after the RX 5950 XT, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.
Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.
The RTX 3090 has 16384 MB more video memory than the RX 5950 XT, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.
The RX 5950 XT has 448 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 3090, which means that the memory performance of the RX 5950 XT is massively better than the RTX 3090.
The GeForce RTX 3090 KFA2 EX Gamer White 24GB has 10496 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 5950 XT has 2560. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 3090 is 18263 and the actual shader performance of the RX 5950 XT is 3170. The RTX 3090 having 15093 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the RX 5950 XT performs better when taking into account other relevant data.
The RX 5950 XT transistor size technology is 1 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 3090. This means that the RX 5950 XT is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 3090.
The GeForce RTX 3090 KFA2 EX Gamer White 24GB requires 350 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 5950 XT requires 225 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the RTX 3090 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the RX 5950 XT. The RTX 3090 requires 125 Watts more than the RX 5950 XT to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 3090 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RX 5950 XT.

Mini Review | Overview The GeForce RTX 3090 KFA2 EX Gamer White 24GB is the top RTX 30 Series graphics card and considered an Enthusiast graphics card based on the Ampere architecture. Architecture The Ampere architecture represents a process shrink down to 7nm compared to 12nm Turing. The Ampere architecture provides the world's next consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. GPU It equips a GPU Codenamed Ampere GA102 which has 5120 Shader Processing Units, 320 TMUs, and 96 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1520MHz and goes up to 1740MHz in Boost mode. It also has 610 Tensor Cores for AI purposes and 72 RT Cores for real-time ray-tracing. Memory The GPU accesses a 24GB frame buffer of second-gen GDDR6X memory through a 384-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 350W, it requires at least a 750W PSU with two 8-pin power connectors. System Suggestions The GeForce RTX 3090 KFA2 EX Gamer White 24GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a top-End Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. | Overview The Radeon RX 5950 XT is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the first (1.0) Revision of the RDNA 2 Architecture. These specs are yet to be confirmed. Architecture The Big Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Big Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering XX Shader Processing Units, XX TMUs and XX ROPs. The GPU features a XX MHz base clock speed and up to XX MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated XX% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080. GPU The Central Unit is clocked at XX MHz, rising to XX MHz with boost clock enabled. Memory: Speed The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of XX GB/s. Memory: Frame Buffer The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to XXGB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory. However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, XXGB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 225W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8+6-pin connector. Performance AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT competes with GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, which is available for $599. Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 2070. System Suggestions AMD Radeon RX 5950 XT is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. |
