In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Galax SG 10GB are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q.

The RTX 3080 has a 465 MHz higher core clock speed and 92 more Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2060. This results in the RTX 3080 providing 188.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RTX 3080 has a 465 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the RTX 2060. This results in the RTX 3080 providing 45.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 3080 was released less than a year after the RTX 2060, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 3080 has 4096 MB more video memory than the RTX 2060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 3080 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2060 has 264 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 3080, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2060 is massively better than the RTX 3080.

The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax SG 10GB has 8704 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q has 1920. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 3080 is 14884 and the actual shader performance of the RTX 2060 is 2275. The RTX 3080 having 12609 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 3080 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RTX 2060.

The RTX 3080 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 2060. This means that the RTX 3080 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 2060.

The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax SG 10GB requires 320 Watts to run and the GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q requires 65 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the RTX 3080. The RTX 3080 requires 255 Watts more than the RTX 2060 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 3080 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2060.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer SG 10GB is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Ampere Architecture. This card has also been rumoured to be called the GeForce GTX 2180. Architecture It equips an Ampere GPU Codenamed GA102 which is a First Gen Ampere GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 3386 Shader Processing Units, 212 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Ampere architecture provides the world's best consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 544 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU Name: GA102 GPU The central unit runs at 1440MHz and goes up to 1710MHz in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 10GB frame buffer of Third Gen GDDR6X through a 320-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448 Gb/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 320W, it requires at least a 750W PSU with available two 8-pin power connector. Performance Predicted performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer SG 10GB suggests it will be faster than the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, making it a suitable graphics card for 4K gaming. System Suggestions The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer SG 10GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a High-End Processor and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.Overview GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q is the low-power variant of the RTX 2060 Mobile and is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card for laptops based on the Turing GPU architecture. It is considered a great price to performance graphics card. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q supports real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 975 MHz and goes up to 1185 MHz in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1375MHz, or 11GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 65W the RTX 2060 Max-Q is averagely resource-intensive and will fairly significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2060 6GB Max-Q is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
