In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 5800 XT.

The RX 5800 XT has a 165 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 3080, but the RTX 3080 has 52 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 5800 XT. As a result, the RTX 3080 exhibits a 48.5 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the RX 5800 XT. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX 5800 XT has a 165 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 3080 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RX 5800 XT providing 10.5 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 3080 was released less than a year after the RX 5800 XT, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 3080 has 2048 MB more video memory than the RX 5800 XT, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The RX 5800 XT has 448 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 3080, which means that the memory performance of the RX 5800 XT is massively better than the RTX 3080.

The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB has 8704 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 5800 XT has 2560. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 3080 is 15276 and the actual shader performance of the RX 5800 XT is 3170. The RTX 3080 having 12106 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the RX 5800 XT performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The RX 5800 XT transistor size technology is 1 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 3080. This means that the RX 5800 XT is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 3080.

The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB requires 320 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 5800 XT requires 225 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the RTX 3080 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the RX 5800 XT. The RTX 3080 requires 95 Watts more than the RX 5800 XT to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 3080 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RX 5800 XT.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Ampere Architecture. This card has also been rumoured to be called the GeForce GTX 2180. Architecture It equips an Ampere GPU Codenamed GA102 which is a First Gen Ampere GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 3386 Shader Processing Units, 212 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Ampere architecture provides the world's best consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 544 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU Name: GA102 GPU The central unit runs at 1440MHz and goes up to 1755MHz in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 10GB frame buffer of Third Gen GDDR6X through a 320-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448 Gb/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 320W, it requires at least a 750W PSU with available two 8-pin power connector. Performance Predicted performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB suggests it will be faster than the Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, making it a suitable graphics card for 4K gaming. System Suggestions The GeForce RTX 3080 Galax EX Gamer 10GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a High-End Processor and 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.Overview
The Radeon RX 5800 XT is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the first (1.0) Revision of the RDNA 2 Architecture. These specs are yet to be confirmed.

Architecture
The Big Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Big Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering XX Shader Processing Units, XX TMUs and XX ROPs. The GPU features a XX MHz base clock speed and up to XX MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated XX% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at XX MHz, rising to XX MHz with boost clock enabled.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of XX GB/s.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to XXGB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, XXGB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 225W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8+6-pin connector.

Performance
AMD Radeon RX 5800 XT competes with GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, which is available for $599.
Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 5800 XT performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 2070.
System Suggestions
AMD Radeon RX 5800 XT is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
