In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Intel 655 GT3e are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 8850M.

The Radeon HD 8850M has a 325 MHz higher core clock speed but 8 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the 655 GT3e. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the Radeon HD 8850M manages to provide 10.6 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The Radeon HD 8850M has a 325 MHz higher core clock speed and 13 more Render Output Units than the 655 GT3e. This results in the Radeon HD 8850M providing 9.1 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The 655 GT3e was released over three years more recently than the Radeon HD 8850M, and so the 655 GT3e is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Radeon HD 8850M when running the latest games.

The Radeon HD 8850M has 2048 MB video memory, but the 655 GT3e does not have an entry, so the two GPUs cannot be reliably compared in this area.

The 655 GT3e has 384 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8850M has 640. However, the actual shader performance of the 655 GT3e is 461 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8850M is 496. The Radeon HD 8850M having 35 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD 8850M delivers a slightly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the 655 GT3e.

The 655 GT3e transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 8850M. This means that the 655 GT3e is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 8850M.

The 655 GT3e requires 28 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8850M requires 45 Watts. The Radeon HD 8850M requires 17 Watts more than the 655 GT3e to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Radeon HD 8850M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the 655 GT3e.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 GT3e are integrated graphics in some of Intel's Kaby Lake mobile processors. It can be found in Intel i7-8559U, i5-8269U, i5-8259U, i3-8109U

Architecture
The Kaby Lake architecture succeeds the Skylake architecture and aims for increased CPU and graphics performance, via the same power requirements. It includes support for DirectX 12.1, OpenCL 2.1 and OpenGL 4.6.
GPU
The central unit initially runs at 300MHz and goes up to 1200MHz, in turbo mode in the Intel i7-8559U.

Performance
Because Performance depends heavily on the Memory Bandwidth, it may vary heavily from System to System.
Best case scenario, expect performance similar to the AMD Radeon RX Vega 5.
Overview
Radeon HD 8850M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture.

Architecture
The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Venus PRO which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 625MHz and goes up to 775MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1000MHz.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 45W, it is suited for 17" or larger laptops.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance somewhat above NVIDIA's GeForce GT 750M.

System Suggestions
We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8850M.
