In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q.
The RTX 2070 has a 480 MHz higher core clock speed but 16 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RTX 2070 manages to provide 54.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The RTX 2070 has a 480 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RTX 2070 providing 30.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The RTX 2070 was released over a year more recently than the RTX 2070, and so the RTX 2070 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the RTX 2070.
Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q and the GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The memory bandwidth of the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q and the GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB are the same, which means the RTX 2070 and the RTX 2070 have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q has 2560 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 2957 and the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 4216. The RTX 2070 having 1259 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2070 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RTX 2070.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB requires 175 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the RTX 2070, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The RTX 2070 requires 95 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 2070 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

Mini Review | Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q card is a high-end RTX 20 Series graphics card for laptops and considered an enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing GPU architecture. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 40 SM activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 320 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU106 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q is clocked lower than the regular RTX 2070 Super Mobile version, leading to a slight reduction in game performance. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1215 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1440 MHz whereas this 2070 Super Max-Q has a clock speed of 930 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1155 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-90W the RTX 2070 Super Max-Q is not as power hungry as the full fat mobile version but will still reduce battery gameplay hours if pushed to max power capacity. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q is capable of resolutions all the way up to 4K (3840x2160) but is probably more suited to 1440p displays. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. | Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB is a High-End Graphics Card based on the 12nm Turing Architecture and is considered a great 1440p video card. This is a dual-slot graphics card with three 80mm fans equipped with special fan blade design for low noise, high air volume cooling, premium trio copper pipe cooling, all-black design, and RGB lighting. Architecture It equips a cut-down Turing GPU Codenamed TU106, more specifically the TU106-400A-A1 variant which means factory overclocks are permitted. This is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 16 SM activated, offering 2304 CUDA Shader Processing Units, 144 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing (RTX) technology. It is equipped with 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes and 32 RT Cores for ray-tracing. GPU The central unit runs at 1410 MHz and goes up to 1830 MHz in Boost Mode, providing a large 13% overclocked compared to the reference model. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448GB/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 175W, it requires at least a 550W PSU with one available 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector. Performance The GeForce RTX 2070 offers performance in between the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, albeit also boasting ray-tracing and DLSS support. System Suggestions The GeForce RTX 2070 Galax SG Edition 8GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. |
