In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX 5950 are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile.
The Radeon RX 5950 has a 465 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the RTX 2070. This results in the Radeon RX 5950 providing 74.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The Radeon RX 5950 has a 465 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the Radeon RX 5950 providing 29.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The Radeon RX 5950 was released less than a year after the RTX 2070, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.
Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile and the Radeon RX 5950 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.
The memory bandwidth of the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile and the Radeon RX 5950 are the same, which means the RTX 2070 and the Radeon RX 5950 have equal limitations when it comes to graphical data transfer.
Both the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile and the Radeon RX 5950 have 2560 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the RTX 2070 is 3533 and by the Radeon RX 5950 is 3170. Knowing that the shader performance of the RTX 2070 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.
The Radeon RX 5950 transistor size technology is 5 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 2070. This means that the Radeon RX 5950 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 2070.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile requires 115 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 5950 requires 225 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the Radeon RX 5950, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The Radeon RX 5950 requires 110 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the Radeon RX 5950 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

Mini Review | Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile card is a high-end RTX 20 Series graphics card for laptops and considered an enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing GPU architecture. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 40 SM activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 320 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU106 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobility is clocked lower than the desktop variant, leading to a slight reduction in game performance. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1605 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1770 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-115W the RTX 2070 Super Mobile is fairly power hungry and will significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce GRTX 2070 Super Mobile is capable of resolutions all the way up to 4K (3840x2160) but is best suited for 1440p displays. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. | Overview The Radeon RX 5950 is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the first (1.0) Revision of the RDNA 2 Architecture. These specs are yet to be confirmed. Architecture The Big Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Big Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering XX Shader Processing Units, XX TMUs and XX ROPs. The GPU features a XX MHz base clock speed and up to XX MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated XX% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080. GPU The Central Unit is clocked at XX MHz, rising to XX MHz with boost clock enabled. Memory: Speed The GPU is equipped with high-speed GDDR6 and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 256-bit memory interface, providing total memory bandwidth of XX GB/s. Memory: Frame Buffer The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to XXGB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory. However, the GPU itself is aimed for 4K Gaming, In some limited scenarios, XXGB might be a bottleneck and Performance could be better were the Frame Buffer larger, however this would only be an issue in the most demanding games. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 225W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with one available 8+6-pin connector. Performance AMD Radeon RX 5950 competes with GeForce RTX 2070 8GB, which is available for $599. Specs currently available suggest the AMD Radeon RX 5950 performance should be in the same region as the GeForce RTX 2070. System Suggestions AMD Radeon RX 5950 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840 x2160 (4K). For the most demanding AAA games it should be ideally suited to 4K. We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. |
