In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 5500 4GB.
The RX 5500 has a 530 MHz higher core clock speed but 32 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RX 5500 manages to provide 31.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The RX 5500 has a 530 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070, but the RTX 2070 has 32 more Render Output Units than the RX 5500. As a result, the RTX 2070 exhibits a 19.6 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the RX 5500. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The RTX 2070 was released less than a year after the RX 5500, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.
Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.
The RTX 2070 has 4096 MB more video memory than the RX 5500, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2070 also has superior memory performance overall.
The RTX 2070 has 224 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RX 5500, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2070 is massively better than the RX 5500.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile has 2560 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 5500 4GB has 1408. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 3533 and the actual shader performance of the RX 5500 is 1689. The RTX 2070 having 1844 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2070 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 5500.
The RX 5500 transistor size technology is 5 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 2070. This means that the RX 5500 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 2070.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile requires 115 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 5500 4GB requires 110 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the RX 5500, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The RTX 2070 requires 5 Watts more than the RX 5500 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the RTX 2070 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the RX 5500.

Mini Review | Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile card is a high-end RTX 20 Series graphics card for laptops and considered an enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing GPU architecture. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 40 SM activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 320 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU106 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobility is clocked lower than the desktop variant, leading to a slight reduction in game performance. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1605 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1770 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-115W the RTX 2070 Super Mobile is fairly power hungry and will significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce GRTX 2070 Super Mobile is capable of resolutions all the way up to 4K (3840x2160) but is best suited for 1440p displays. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. | Overview The Radeon RX 5500 4GB is an entry-level graphics card which is part of the AMD Radeon RX 5000 series, announced on October 7th, 2019. Architecture It is powered by the 7nm Navi GPU, which has 1408 shader processing units, [xx] TMUs and [xx]] ROPs. GPU The central unit runs at 1670 MHz and goes up to 1845 MHz when the boost mode is triggered. Memory The RX 5500 4GB comes with a 4GB frame buffer of GDDR6 video memory through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock operates at 1750MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 110W, it requires at least a 500W PSU with one available 8-pin connector. Performance The Radeon RX 5500 4GB been built as a Low/Mid performance graphics card for 2019. Its direct competitor is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Super. It will run most triple AAA titles released during 2019 on medium to high graphics at 1080p screen resolution. With adjustments and lowering anti aliasing this RX 5500 4GB card can confidently maintain 60+ frames per seconds on high graphic settings at 1080p. Moving to 1440p screen resolution and the graphics card may need to be adjusted down to medium in order to maintain 50-60+ fps. System Suggestions The Radeon RX 5500 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a mid range R5 Ryzen processor and at least 8GB of system memory for optimal gaming performance from the RX 5500 4GB. |
