In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060.
The GeForce GTX 1060 has a 366 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070, but the RTX 2070 has 80 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2070 exhibits a 61.9 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GeForce GTX 1060. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GeForce GTX 1060 has a 366 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070, but the RTX 2070 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GeForce GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2070 exhibits a 0.7 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GeForce GTX 1060. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The RTX 2070 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce GTX 1060, and so the RTX 2070 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce GTX 1060 when running the latest games.
Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.
The RTX 2070 has 2048 MB more video memory than the GeForce GTX 1060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2070 also has superior memory performance overall.
The RTX 2070 has 255.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 1060, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2070 is massively better than the GeForce GTX 1060.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile has 2560 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 1060 has 1280. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 3533 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 1060 is 2953. The RTX 2070 having 580 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2070 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce GTX 1060.
The RTX 2070 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GTX 1060. This means that the RTX 2070 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GTX 1060.
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile requires 115 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1060 requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GeForce GTX 1060, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The GeForce GTX 1060 requires 5 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GeForce GTX 1060 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the RTX 2070.

Mini Review | Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobile card is a high-end RTX 20 Series graphics card for laptops and considered an enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing GPU architecture. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 40 SM activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 320 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU106 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2070 Super Mobility is clocked lower than the desktop variant, leading to a slight reduction in game performance. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1605 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1770 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1750MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-115W the RTX 2070 Super Mobile is fairly power hungry and will significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load. System Suggestions GeForce GRTX 2070 Super Mobile is capable of resolutions all the way up to 4K (3840x2160) but is best suited for 1440p displays. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance. | Overview GeForce GTX 1060 is a Performance Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture. Architecture It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-400-A1 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU amd has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs. GPU The central unit runs at 1506MHz and goes up to 1709MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector. Performance Benchmarks Indicate that GeForce GTX 1060 offers Performance around the Level of GeForce GTX 980. As such, GeForce GTX 1060 is almost twice as fast as GeForce GTX 960 and even AMD's Radeon RX 480 is beaten in over 5%. System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1060 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance. |
