In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q.

The GTX 1070 has a 632 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the RTX 2060. This results in the GTX 1070 providing 75.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1070 has a 632 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the RTX 2060. This results in the GTX 1070 providing 56 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2060 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 1070, and so the RTX 2060 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 1070 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1070 has 2048 MB more video memory than the RTX 2060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1070 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2060 has 7.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1070, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2060 is marginally better than the GTX 1070.

Both the GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q and the GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! have 1920 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 1070 is 4658 and by the RTX 2060 is 4658. Knowing that the shader performance of the GTX 1070 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The RTX 2060 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1070. This means that the RTX 2060 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1070.

The GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q requires 65 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! requires 220 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 1070, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2060. The GTX 1070 requires 155 Watts more than the RTX 2060 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 1070 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2060.

Mini ReviewOverview GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q is the low-power variant of the RTX 2060 Mobile and is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card for laptops based on the Turing GPU architecture. It is considered a great price to performance graphics card. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q supports real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 48 ROPs. The central unit runs at 975 MHz and goes up to 1185 MHz in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1375MHz, or 11GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 65W the RTX 2060 Max-Q is averagely resource-intensive and will fairly significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load.
