In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super EVGA Gaming 8GB are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.

The RTX 2080 has a 765 MHz higher core clock speed but 24 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RTX 2080 manages to provide 101.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RTX 2080 has a 765 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RTX 2080 providing 49 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2080 was released less than a year after the RTX 2070, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and the GeForce RTX 2080 Super EVGA Gaming 8GB have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The RTX 2080 has 112.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 2070, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2080 is massively better than the RTX 2070.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce RTX 2080 Super EVGA Gaming 8GB has 3072. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 2730 and the actual shader performance of the RTX 2080 is 5576. The RTX 2080 having 2846 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2080 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RTX 2070.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the GeForce RTX 2080 Super EVGA Gaming 8GB requires 250 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 650 Watts for the RTX 2080, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The RTX 2080 requires 170 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 2080 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.
