In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q.

The RTX 2060 has a 480 MHz higher core clock speed but 64 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RTX 2060 manages to provide 1 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RTX 2060 has a 480 MHz higher core clock speed but 17 fewer Render Output Units than the RTX 2070. The lower ROP count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RTX 2060 manages to provide 7.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2060 was released less than a year after the RTX 2070, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 2070 has 2048 MB more video memory than the RTX 2060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2070 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2070 has 240 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 2060, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2070 is massively better than the RTX 2060.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 has 1920. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 2730 and the actual shader performance of the RTX 2060 is 3226. The RTX 2060 having 496 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the RTX 2070 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 requires 150 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the RTX 2060, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The RTX 2060 requires 70 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RTX 2060 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

However, this does impact performance. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU106B N18E-G2-A1 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 2304 Shader Processing Units, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes.
