In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 Kuroutoshikou Dual Fan 8GB are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q.

The RX 5700 has a 730 MHz higher core clock speed but 40 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2080. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RX 5700 manages to provide 75.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX 5700 has a 730 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2080 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RX 5700 providing 46.8 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX 5700 was released less than a year after the RTX 2080, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q and the Radeon RX 5700 Kuroutoshikou Dual Fan 8GB have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The RX 5700 has 64 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 2080, which means that the memory performance of the RX 5700 is much better than the RTX 2080.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q has 2944 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 5700 Kuroutoshikou Dual Fan 8GB has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2080 is 3224 and the actual shader performance of the RX 5700 is 2621. The RTX 2080 having 603 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the RX 5700 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The RX 5700 transistor size technology is 5 nm (nanometers) smaller than the RTX 2080. This means that the RX 5700 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the RTX 2080.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q requires 80 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 5700 Kuroutoshikou Dual Fan 8GB requires 180 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the RX 5700, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2080. The RX 5700 requires 100 Watts more than the RTX 2080 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RX 5700 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2080.

However, this does impact performance. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed GT104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 20 SM activated, offering 2944 Shader Processing Units, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 368 Tensor Cores for AI purposes.
