In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 5500 4GB.

The RX 5500 has a 260 MHz higher core clock speed but 16 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the RX 5500 manages to provide 10.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX 5500 has a 260 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce RTX 2070, but the GeForce RTX 2070 has 32 more Render Output Units than the RX 5500. As a result, the GeForce RTX 2070 exhibits a 36.8 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the RX 5500. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX 5500 was released over a year more recently than the GeForce RTX 2070, and so the RX 5500 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GeForce RTX 2070.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2070 has 4096 MB more video memory than the RX 5500, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce RTX 2070 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce RTX 2070 has 224 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RX 5500, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce RTX 2070 is massively better than the RX 5500.

The Radeon RX 5500 4GB has 1408 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce RTX 2070 has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the RX 5500 is 1689 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce RTX 2070 is 3940. The GeForce RTX 2070 having 2251 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce RTX 2070 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 5500.

The RX 5500 transistor size technology is 5 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce RTX 2070. This means that the RX 5500 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce RTX 2070.

The Radeon RX 5500 4GB requires 110 Watts to run and the GeForce RTX 2070 requires 175 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the RX 5500 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GeForce RTX 2070. The GeForce RTX 2070 requires 65 Watts more than the RX 5500 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce RTX 2070 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RX 5500.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
The Radeon RX 5500 4GB is an entry-level graphics card which is part of the AMD Radeon RX 5000 series, announced on October 7th, 2019.

Architecture
It is powered by the 7nm Navi GPU, which has 1408 shader processing units, [xx] TMUs and [xx]] ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1670 MHz and goes up to 1845 MHz when the boost mode is triggered.

Memory
The RX 5500 4GB comes with a 4GB frame buffer of GDDR6 video memory through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock operates at 1750MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 110W, it requires at least a 500W PSU with one available 8-pin connector.

Performance
The Radeon RX 5500 4GB been built as a Low/Mid performance graphics card for 2019. Its direct competitor is the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Super. It will run most triple AAA titles released during 2019 on medium to high graphics at 1080p screen resolution. With adjustments and lowering anti aliasing this RX 5500 4GB card can confidently maintain 60+ frames per seconds on high graphic settings at 1080p. Moving to 1440p screen resolution and the graphics card may need to be adjusted down to medium in order to maintain 50-60+ fps.

System Suggestions
The Radeon RX 5500 4GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a mid range R5 Ryzen processor and at least 8GB of system memory for optimal gaming performance from the RX 5500 4GB.
Overview The GeForce RTX 2070 is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Turing Architecture. This card has also been rumoured to be called the GeForce GTX 2070 or the GeForce GTX 1170. Architecture It equips a cut-down Turing GPU Codenamed GT104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 16 SM activated, offering 2304 CUDA Shader Processing Units, 144 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It is equipped with 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The central unit runs at 1410 MHz and goes up to 1710 MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448GB/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 175W, it requires at least a 500W PSU with one available 8-pin connector. Performance Predicted performance of the GeForce RTX 2070 suggests it will be as fast as the Nvidia Titan Xp, making it a suitable graphics card for 4K gaming. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2070 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 3840x2160. We recommend a high-end processor and 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.
