In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT HIS 8GB.

The RTX 2080 has a 45 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the RX 5700 XT. This results in the RTX 2080 providing 7.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RTX 2080 has a 45 MHz higher core clock speed than the RX 5700 XT and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RTX 2080 providing 2.9 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2080 was released less than a year after the RX 5700 XT, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

Architecture
The Navi 10 XL GPU offers support for GDDR6 Memory, DirectX 12.0, Vulkan 1.0, and OpenGL 4.5. This variant of the Navi 10 XL GPU features 40 Compute Units activated, offering 2560 Shader Processing Units, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The GPU features a 1605 MHz base clock speed and up to 1905 MHz with boost clock, making it an estimated 15% faster than a Radeon RX Vega 64. This puts its predicted performance roughly in line with the GeForce RTX 2080.
