In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 6450 are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra.

The Radeon HD 6450 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce 6800 Ultra, and so the Radeon HD 6450 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce 6800 Ultra when running the latest games.

The Radeon HD 6450 has 256 MB more video memory than the GeForce 6800 Ultra, so is likely to be slightly better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the Radeon HD 6450 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce 6800 Ultra has 9.6 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 6450, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce 6800 Ultra is marginally better than the Radeon HD 6450.

The Radeon HD 6450 has 160 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce 6800 Ultra has 22. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 6450 is 50 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce 6800 Ultra is 9. The Radeon HD 6450 having 41 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GeForce 6800 Ultra performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The Radeon HD 6450 requires 18 Watts to run and the GeForce 6800 Ultra requires 124 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the Radeon HD 6450. The GeForce 6800 Ultra requires 106 Watts more than the Radeon HD 6450 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce 6800 Ultra may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the Radeon HD 6450.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon HD 6450 is an entry-level Graphics Card based on the second revision of the Terascale Architecture.

Architecture
The Second variant of the Terascale 2 Architecture is still manufactured with a 40nm technology and despite allowing more Stream Cores, their design remains more or less the same compared to the first variant.

GPU
It equips a GPU codenamed Caicos PRO which has 2 Compute Units activated and thus offers 160 Shader Processing Units, 8 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit Operates at 625MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 512MB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 64-bit memory interface. The memory clock operates at 800MHz. The size of the frame buffer is adequate.

Features
DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for HD3D, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, PowerPlay and other technologies.

Cooling Solution
The Cooling Solution consists of a Single-Fan.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 18W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance only slightly below of a GeForce GT 520.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 6450.
The groundbreaking new NVIDIA GeForce 6800 graphics processing units (GPUs) and their revolutionary technologies power worlds where reality and fantasy meet; worlds in which new standards are set for visual realism and quality, performance, and video functionality. The GeForce 6800 GPUs deliver powerful, elegant graphics to drench your senses, immersing you in unparalleled worlds of visual effects for the ultimate PC experience.
