In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 440 are very slightly better than the AMD Radeon HD 3850 AGP.

The GeForce GT 440 has a 142 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the HD 3850. This results in the GeForce GT 440 providing 2.3 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

This means that the GeForce GT 440 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the HD 3850. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the GeForce GT 440 should consume less power than the HD 3850.

The GeForce GT 440 requires 65 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 3850 AGP requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GeForce GT 440 and a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the HD 3850. The HD 3850 requires 10 Watts more than the GeForce GT 440 to run. GeForce GT 440 is a middle-class Graphics Card based on the first revision of the Fermi Architecture.

Architecture
The Fermi Architecture is manufactured with a 40nm technology and uses a technique known as Hot Clocking: The Shaders are clocked twice as fast as the Central Unit. While this leads to a reasonable performance boost, it causes enormous amounts of energy dissipation, leading, ultimately, to a significantly higher operating temperature.
Fermi is also the first GPU architecture with fully cached memory access which increases memory performance.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GF108-400-A1 which has 2 Stream Multiprocessors activated and thus offers 96 Shader Processing Units, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. The Central Unit is clocked at 810MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 512MB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 800MHz.

Power Consumption

Performance
Gaming benchmarks put its performance considerably above Radeon HD 5570 however, Radeon HD 5670 is still much faster.

System Suggestions
We recommend a modest processor (Intel Celeron) and 4GB of RAM for a system with GeForce GT 440.
Radeon HD 3850 AGP is a variant of the high-end Radeon HD 3850 based on the 55nm, second unified shader architecture, R600. Check its page to know more about its Core.
Compared to Radeon HD 3850, it features twice as much video memory and an AGP 8X Bus Interface. Benchmarks indicate the double sized frame buffer benefits this GPU largely and so its performance is up to 8% better than the reference Radeon HD 3850.
Today's modern games should run fluently at medium settings but with modest resolutions. DirectX 11 games aren't supported.
