In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680.

The RX 590 has a 463 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GTX 680. This results in the RX 590 providing 82.7 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX 590 has a 463 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 680 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the RX 590 providing 14.8 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX 590 was released over three years more recently than the GeForce GTX 680, and so the RX 590 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GeForce GTX 680 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RX 590 has 6144 MB more video memory than the GeForce GTX 680, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RX 590 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RX 590 has 63.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 680, which means that the memory performance of the RX 590 is much better than the GeForce GTX 680.

The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 680 has 1536. However, the actual shader performance of the RX 590 is 3686 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 680 is 1625. The RX 590 having 2061 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RX 590 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce GTX 680.

The RX 590 transistor size technology is 16 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GTX 680. This means that the RX 590 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GTX 680.

The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB requires 235 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 680 requires 195 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the RX 590 and a PSU with at least 550 Watts for the GeForce GTX 680. The RX 590 requires 40 Watts more than the GeForce GTX 680 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RX 590 may have a slight adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce GTX 680.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
The new AMD Radeon RX 590 is an uprated version of the RX 580 on the smaller 12nm process node. The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB is a mid-range Radeon RX 500 Series graphics card and considered great price to performance for gaming at 1080p.

This RX 590 is the 8GB version.

The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB is a 2.5-slot video card with a dual-fan design 100mm cooling system, composite heat pipes, bullet proof backplate, and smart cooling technology. This video card has average overclocking potential. Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 30, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The RX 590 8GB central processing unit runs at 1469 MHz base clock and goes up to 1600 MHz when in boost and turbo mode, providing a 4% overclock versus the reference model.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 8GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 2000MHz.

Power Consumption
The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB has a power TDP requirement of 235W. This means it will require at least a 500W PSU with one dedicated 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector.

Performance
Benchmarks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 590 8GB will be around 10-15% faster than the Nvidia GTX 1060 in terms of gaming performance, and around 6% faster than the Radeon RX 580 model it is replacing.

System Suggestions
The Radeon RX 590 VisionTek OC Limited Edition 8GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440, although is ideally suited for 1080p gaming. We recommend a high-end processor, like the new Ryzen R5 and at least 12GB of RAM for optimal gaming performance.
GeForce GTX 680 is a high-end Graphics Card based on the 28nm, Kepler architecture.
The Kepler architecture allows more SPUs but the Fermi SPUs (used on the 400 & 500 Series) are clocked twice as fast as the Kepler architecture. Therefore, don't let the large amount of Pipelines fool you, as the 1536 Pipelines are equivalent to 768 Pipelines, of the Fermi architecture.
GeForce GTX 680 features a 1006Mhz core-clock that can automatically set itself to 1058Mhz using a technology similar to the one used on Intel GPUs. Another huge surprise is the TDP that went from 244 Watts, to just 195 Watts, as two SPUs of the Kepler architecture consume 10% less power. However, the amount was doubled and so the power save is not as high as it could have been.
GeForce GTX 680 was the fastest single GPU of the world until Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition was released.
All games will run on the maximum settings smoothly.
