In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile.

The GTX 1070 has a 392 MHz higher core clock speed but 24 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the RTX 2070. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 1070 manages to provide 17.8 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1070 has a 392 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2070 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 1070 providing 25 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2070 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1070, and so the RTX 2070 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1070.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile and the GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The RTX 2070 has 191.7 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1070, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2070 is massively better than the GTX 1070.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! has 1920. However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2070 is 3318 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 1070 is 4658. The GTX 1070 having 1340 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the RTX 2070 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The RTX 2070 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1070. This means that the RTX 2070 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1070. While they exhibit similar graphical performance, the RTX 2070 should consume less power than the GTX 1070.

The GeForce RTX 2070 Mobile requires 115 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP! requires 220 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 1070, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2070. The GTX 1070 requires 105 Watts more than the RTX 2070 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 1070 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RTX 2070.

Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU106 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 36 SM activated, offering 2304 Shader Processing Units, 144 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU106 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2070 Mobility is clocked lower than the desktop variant, caused decreased performances. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1215 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1440 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 80-115W the RTX 2070 Mobile is fairly power hungry and will significantly reduce laptop battery life at full load.
