In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB.

This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1060 has a 227 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2080, but the RTX 2080 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the RTX 2080 exhibits a 11.2 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2080 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1060, and so the RTX 2080 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1060.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RTX 2080 has 2048 MB more video memory than the GTX 1060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RTX 2080 also has superior memory performance overall.

The RTX 2080 has 255.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1060, which means that the memory performance of the RTX 2080 is massively better than the GTX 1060.

However, the actual shader performance of the RTX 2080 is 4681 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 1060 is 3171. The RTX 2080 having 1510 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RTX 2080 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 1060.

The RTX 2080 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1060. This means that the RTX 2080 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile requires 150 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1060 EVGA SC GAMING 6GB requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 1060, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2080. The RTX 2080 requires 30 Watts more than the GTX 1060 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the RTX 2080 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the GTX 1060.
