In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile are very slightly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB Edition.

The GTX 1070 has a 214 MHz higher core clock speed than the RTX 2080, but the RTX 2080 has 64 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1070. As a result, the RTX 2080 exhibits a 62.6 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1070. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2080 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1070, and so the RTX 2080 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1070.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile and the GeForce GTX 1070 EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB Edition have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 1070, but we do not have a recommended PSU wattage for the RTX 2080. The GTX 1070 requires 30 Watts more than the RTX 2080 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 1070 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the RTX 2080.

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile card is the top RTX 20 Series graphics card for laptops and considered an enthusiast graphics card based on the Turing GPU architecture. Architecture It equips a Turing GPU Codenamed TU104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 46 SM activated, offering 2944 Shader Processing Units, 184 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It also has 368 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The TU104 GPU used in the GeForce RTX 2080 Mobility is clocked lower than the desktop variant, caused decreased performances. The standard model has a base clock speed of 1380 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1590 MHz. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of first-gen GDDR6 memory through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz.
