In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 are marginally better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB Edition.

The GTX 1070 has a 229 MHz higher core clock speed and the same number of Texture Mapping Units as the RTX 2060. This results in the GTX 1070 providing 27.5 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1070 has a 229 MHz higher core clock speed and 17 more Render Output Units than the RTX 2060. This results in the GTX 1070 providing 37.8 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RTX 2060 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 1070, and so the RTX 2060 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 1070.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1070 has 2048 MB more video memory than the RTX 2060, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1070 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GTX 1070 has 112.3 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RTX 2060, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 1070 is massively better than the RTX 2060.

Both the GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 and the GeForce GTX 1070 EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB Edition have 1920 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the GTX 1070 is 4624 and by the RTX 2060 is 4624. Knowing that the shader performance of the GTX 1070 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

The RTX 2060 transistor size technology is 4 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1070. This means that the RTX 2060 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1070.

The GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 requires 150 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1070 EVGA SC GAMING ACX 3.0 8GB Edition requires 180 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 450 Watts for the RTX 2060 and a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the GTX 1070. The GTX 1070 requires 30 Watts more than the RTX 2060 to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 1070 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the RTX 2060.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 is a mid-range GeForce 20 Series graphics card and considered a great price to performance graphics card based on the Turing architecture. Architecture The Turing architecture represents a process shrink down to 12nm compared to 14nm Pascal. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. The GeForce RTX 2060 does support real-time ray-tracing and excels at 1080p screen resolution. GPU It equips a Turing GPU codenamed TU106 which has 1920 Shader Processing Units, 120 TMUs and 47 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1365 MHz and goes up to 1680 MHz, in Boost mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of slower GDDR5 memory compared to the GDDR6 model, running through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory clock operates at 1500MHz, or 14GHz effective. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 150W, it requires at least a 450W PSU with an 8-pin power connector. System Suggestions GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR5 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a mid-range Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for optimal performance.Overview
