In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 are significantly better than the AMD Radeon HD 7950 3-way Crossfire.

The GeForce RTX 2070 has a 610 MHz higher core clock speed than the HD 7950, but the HD 7950 has 192 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce RTX 2070. As a result, the HD 7950 exhibits a 65.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GeForce RTX 2070. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce RTX 2070 has a 610 MHz higher core clock speed but 32 fewer Render Output Units than the HD 7950. The lower ROP count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GeForce RTX 2070 manages to provide 13.4 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

Mini ReviewOverview The GeForce RTX 2070 is a High-End Graphics Card based on the Turing Architecture. This card has also been rumoured to be called the GeForce GTX 2070 or the GeForce GTX 1170. Architecture It equips a cut-down Turing GPU Codenamed GT104 which is a First Gen Turing GPU and has 16 SM activated, offering 2304 CUDA Shader Processing Units, 144 TMUs and 64 ROPs. The Turing architecture provides the world's first consumer support for real-time ray-tracing technology, or RTX. It is equipped with 288 Tensor Cores for AI purposes. GPU The central unit runs at 1410 MHz and goes up to 1710 MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses an 8GB frame buffer of Second Gen GDDR6 through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 1750MHz, or 14GHz effective. Total memory bandwidth is 448GB/s. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 175W, it requires at least a 500W PSU with one available 8-pin connector. Crossfire relies a lot on proper driver support and may suffer from micro-stuttering in lower frame rates (below 30). Benchmarks indicate the performance is overall, is somewhat superior to a single Radeon HD 7990 performing by itself it might be worse (depending on whether or not the 3D game supports crossfire or in the graphics driver) than a single Radeon HD 7950. Expect this combination to draw up to 540 Watt though the average power consumption should be slightly lower.
Even the most demanding games will run at the highest settings.
