In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB are massively better than the AMD Radeon RX 460 2GB.

The RX Vega has a 410 MHz higher core clock speed and 200 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 460. This results in the RX Vega providing 323 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX Vega has a 410 MHz higher core clock speed and 48 more Render Output Units than the RX 460. This results in the RX Vega providing 78.6 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX Vega was released less than a year after the RX 460, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RX Vega has 6144 MB more video memory than the RX 460, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the RX Vega also has superior memory performance overall.

The RX Vega has 256 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RX 460, which means that the memory performance of the RX Vega is massively better than the RX 460.

The Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB has 4096 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 460 2GB has 896. However, the actual shader performance of the RX Vega is 3994 and the actual shader performance of the RX 460 is 1075. The RX Vega having 2919 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RX Vega delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 460.

The Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB requires 300 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 460 2GB requires 75 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the RX Vega and a PSU with at least 350 Watts for the RX 460. The RX Vega requires 225 Watts more than the RX 460 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RX Vega may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RX 460.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB is an Enthusiast gaming Graphics Card based on the Fourth (4.0) Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.

Architecture
The Vega 10 Pro GPU offers support for HBM-2 Memory, DirectX 12.0 and Open GL 4.5. While the Radeon RX Vega Eclipse and Nova use a slightly faster Vega 10 XT GPU, the Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB will still likely offer performance faster than a GeForce GTX 1070 yet slower than a GTX 1080. Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB GPU has 64 Compute Units activated, offering 4096 Shader Processing Units, 256 TMUs and 64 ROPs. This puts its performance roughly in line with $350 GeForce GTX 1070.

GPU
The Central Unit is clocked at 1500MHz.

Memory: Speed
The GPU is equipped with stacked HBM-2 Memory and accesses the Frame Buffer through a 2048-bit memory interface.

Memory: Frame Buffer
The GPU can fill up a Memory Pool of up to 8GB. Under most circumstances, this only proves useful in certain 3D Games whose Settings Require Large Amounts of Memory.
However, the GPU itself is aimed for 1440p Gaming. The RX Vega Core's performance at this resolution should be excellent, however users with 4K displays may find it bottlenecks performance.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 300W, it requires at least a 600W PSU with two available 8-pin connectors.

Performance
Radeon RX Vega Core 8GB competes with the GeForce GTX 1070 8GB, which is available for $349.
However, the ultra-wide HBM2 memory may offer the Radeon RX Vega an advantage at higher resolutions.
System Suggestions
Radeon RX Vega 64 Air XT 8GB HBM2 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560 x1440 (1440p). We recommend a Very Strong Processor and at least 16GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.is
Overview
Radeon RX 460 2GB is a middle-class graphics card based on the third revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture. Note that there is a 4GB version of the RX 460, which should be considered for future proofing.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 10 which is a 1st gen Polaris GPU, offering 896 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 16 ROPs.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 1750MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 75W, it requires at least a 350W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required.

Performance
This graphics card was designed and marketed towards the competitive MOBO gamers. A light weight, small form factor GPU solution that offers mobility, so that gamers travelling to events can bring a smaller cheaper gaming rig. The Radeon RX 460 2GB can play most modern games at medium graphics selection on a 1600p screen res and expect around 45+FPS

System Suggestions
Radeon RX 460 2GB is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1600x900. We recommend a mid range CPU and 8GB of system memory for optimal performance.
