In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 1030.

The GeForce GT 1030 has a 62 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 960, but the GTX 960 has 32 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GT 1030. As a result, the GTX 960 exhibits a 36.1 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GeForce GT 1030. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce GT 1030 has a 62 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 960, but the GTX 960 has 16 more Render Output Units than the GeForce GT 1030. As a result, the GTX 960 exhibits a 18.1 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GeForce GT 1030. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GT 1030 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 960, and so the GeForce GT 1030 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 960.

The GeForce GT 1030 and the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GTX 960 has 80.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GT 1030, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 960 is much better than the GeForce GT 1030.

The GeForce GT 1030 has 384 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition has 1024. However, the actual shader performance of the GeForce GT 1030 is 578 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 960 is 1732. The GTX 960 having 1154 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 960 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GeForce GT 1030.

The GeForce GT 1030 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 960. This means that the GeForce GT 1030 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 960.

The GeForce GT 1030 requires 30 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition requires 120 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GeForce GT 1030 and a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 960. The GTX 960 requires 90 Watts more than the GeForce GT 1030 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 960 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GeForce GT 1030.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview GeForce GT 1030 2GB is a low-end 1000 series Nvidia graphics card based on the first revision of the Pascal architecture. Architecture The first variant of the Pascal architecture succeeds the Maxwell architecture. Manufactured with a 16nm technology, it has a large L2 Cache, which allows NVIDIA to produce graphics cards with relatively small memory data transfer rates, without causing too much impact on the overall performance. Furthermore, the Shaders have been redesigned and are both more powerful and energy efficient. GPU The GT 1030 equips a GPU codenamed GP108 and offers 384 Shader Processing Units, 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs, on a 64-bit memory interface. The central unit runs at 1252MHz and goes up to 1506MHz, in Turbo Mode, while the memory clock operates at 1250MHz. Features DirectX 12.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for GameStream, G-SYNC, GPU Boost 2.0, GeForce Experience, PhysX and other technologies. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 30W, it requires at least a 300W PSU and relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power. Release Price The GeForce GT 1030 is a low end graphics card that focuses on games requiring minimum graphics performance. Consequently the GT 1030 will come with a budget price tag and will be available from as little as $79.99.Overview
GeForce GTX 960 Gigabyte OC 2GB Edition is a special edition of NVIDIA's Performance GeForce GTX 960 2GB, created by Gigabyte.

Overclock: Central Unit
The Central Unit now runs at 1190MHz, instead of 1127MHz and goes up to 1253MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Cooling Solution
The reference NVIDIA Single-Fan Cooling System has been replaced by Gigabyte's WINDFORCE 2X With Unique Blade Fan which is Equipped with two 90mm unique blade fan and three copper heat pipes. The airflow is split through the triangle design at the fan edge, and is guided smoothly through the fan by special 3D stripe curve design. At the same time, it effectively enhanced the cooling capacity while reducing air turbulence.
