In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon RX 490X 8GB are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 580 HIS IceQ X2 OC 4GB.

The RX 580 has a 257 MHz higher core clock speed than the RX 490X, but the RX 490X has 240 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 580. As a result, the RX 490X exhibits a 203 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the RX 580. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The RX 580 has a 257 MHz higher core clock speed than the RX 490X, but the RX 490X has 96 more Render Output Units than the RX 580. As a result, the RX 490X exhibits a 87.8 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the RX 580. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX 580 was released less than a year after the RX 490X, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The RX 490X has 4096 MB more video memory than the RX 580, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, overall, the RX 580 has superior memory performance.

The RX 580 has 224 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the RX 490X, which means that the memory performance of the RX 580 is massively better than the RX 490X.

The Radeon RX 580 HIS IceQ X2 OC 4GB has 2304 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon RX 490X 8GB has 6144. However, the actual shader performance of the RX 580 is 3147. The RX 490X having 2997 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the RX 490X delivers a significantly smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 580.

The Radeon RX 580 HIS IceQ X2 OC 4GB requires 150 Watts to run and the Radeon RX 490X 8GB requires 250 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the RX 580 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the RX 490X. The RX 490X requires 100 Watts more than the RX 580 to run. The difference is significant enough that the RX 490X may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the RX 580.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
First off we should point out that this is not the new AMD Vega graphics card line. The new AMD Radeon RX 500 series are an uprated version of the RX 400 series that they are replacing. This HIS RX 580 IceQ X2 OC graphics card is one of the two more powerful models from the new AMD Radeon RX 500 Series.

This RX 580 is the 4GB version and there is also the higher VRAM version, RX580 8GB available.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 20 XTX, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The Radeon RX 580 HIS IceQ X2 OC 4GB central processing unit runs at 1257MHz and goes up to a top 1366MHz when in boost and turbo mode, where as the reference RX 580 card's boost is a lower 1340MHz.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 2000MHz.

Power Consumption
The RX 580 4GB has a power TDP requirement of 150W. This means it will require at least a 500W PSU with one dedicated 8-pin connector.

Performance
Early benchmarks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB will be similar in performance to the Nvidia GTX 1060 in terms of gaming performance. This puts the RX 580 4GB about 8% faster than the model it replaced, the AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB. Comparing the RX 580 to RX 570 we see 1440p frame rates around 8-15% better with the RX580 version

System Suggestions
The new HIS RX 580 IceQ X2 OC 4GB released on the 18th April 2017 and is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a high-end processor, like the new Ryzen R5 and at least 8GB of RAM for optimal gaming performance.
Overview
Radeon RX 490X 8GB is an Upcoming High-End Graphics Card based on the Third Revision of the Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture.
