In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Zotac AMP! are significantly better than the AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB.

The GTX 1080 Ti has a 312 MHz higher core clock speed and 80 more Texture Mapping Units than the RX 580. This results in the GTX 1080 Ti providing 170.5 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1080 Ti has a 312 MHz higher core clock speed and 56 more Render Output Units than the RX 580. This results in the GTX 1080 Ti providing 97.9 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The RX 580 was released less than a year after the GTX 1080 Ti, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1080 Ti has 3072 MB more video memory than the RX 580, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1080 Ti also has superior memory performance overall.

However, the actual shader performance of the RX 580 is 3087 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 1080 Ti is 3824. The GTX 1080 Ti having 737 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 1080 Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the RX 580.

The RX 580 transistor size technology is 2 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 1080 Ti. This means that the RX 580 is expected to run very slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 1080 Ti.

The Radeon RX 580 8GB requires 150 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Zotac AMP! requires 220 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 500 Watts for the RX 580 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 1080 Ti. The GTX 1080 Ti requires 70 Watts more than the RX 580 to run. First off we should point out that this is not the new AMD Vega graphics card line. The new AMD Radeon RX 500 series are an uprated version of the RX 400 series that they are replacing. This RX 580 8GB graphics card is one of the two more powerful models from the new AMD Radeon RX 500 Series.

This RX 580 is the 8GB version and there is also the lower VRAM version, RX580 4GB available.

Architecture
It equips a GPU codenamed Polaris 20 XTX, which has 2304 shader processing units, 144 TMUs and 32 ROPs.

GPU
The RX 580 8GB central processing unit runs at 1257MHz and goes up to 1340MHz when in boost and turbo mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 8GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 256-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock operates at 2000MHz.

Power Consumption
The RX 580 8GB has a power TDP requirement of 150W. This means it will require at least a 500W PSU with one dedicated 8-pin connector.

Performance
Early benchmarks indicate that the AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB will be similar in performance to the Nvidia GTX 1060 in terms of gaming performance. This puts the RX 580 8GB about 8% faster than the model it replaced, the AMD Radeon RX 480 8GB. Comparing the RX 580 to RX 570 we see 1440p frame rates around 8-15% better with the RX580 version
