In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050M Ti 4GB are massively better than the AMD Radeon HD 8850M.
The GTX 1050M Ti has a 665 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Texture Mapping Units than the Radeon HD 8850M. This results in the GTX 1050M Ti providing 36.9 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.
The GTX 1050M Ti has a 665 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Render Output Units than the Radeon HD 8850M. This results in the GTX 1050M Ti providing 31.3 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.
The GTX 1050M Ti was released over three years more recently than the Radeon HD 8850M, and so the GTX 1050M Ti is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the Radeon HD 8850M when running the latest games.
The GTX 1050M Ti has 2048 MB more video memory than the Radeon HD 8850M, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1050M Ti also has superior memory performance overall.
The GTX 1050M Ti has 80.1 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 8850M, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 1050M Ti is much better than the Radeon HD 8850M.
The GeForce GTX 1050M Ti 4GB has 768 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon HD 8850M has 640. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1050M Ti is 1443 and the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD 8850M is 496. The GTX 1050M Ti having 947 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GTX 1050M Ti delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Radeon HD 8850M.
The GTX 1050M Ti transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Radeon HD 8850M. This means that the GTX 1050M Ti is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Radeon HD 8850M.
The GeForce GTX 1050M Ti 4GB requires 75 Watts to run and the Radeon HD 8850M requires 45 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GTX 1050M Ti. The GTX 1050M Ti requires 30 Watts more than the Radeon HD 8850M to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 1050M Ti to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon HD 8850M.

Mini Review | Overview GeForce GTX 1050M Ti is the laptop version of one of Nvidia's lower end graphics card. It is competing against AMDs more affordable gaming cards, like the newer RX 470. This card has exactly the same performance as the desktop version, only for the laptop market. Architecture The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and introduces support for second gen HBM. GPU It equips a GPU codenamed GP107-400 which has 6 SM activated and 768 Shader Processing Units, 48 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1290MHz and goes up to 1392MHz when the Boost Clock is triggered in game. Memory The GPU accesses a 4GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 3504MHz. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 75W, it relies entirely on the PCI Slot for power, meaning no extra connectors are required. Performance The GTX 1050 Ti will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 55+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution. Comparatively, this card will be faster than the performance of the outgoing GTX 960 System Suggestions GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080. We recommend a modern CPU like the i7-6700k and 8GB of RAM for minimal system bottleneck. | Overview Radeon HD 8850M is a Performance Mobile Graphics Card based on the Second Revision of the GCN Architecture. Architecture The GCN 1.1 Release adds support for AMD's TrueAudio Technology which does calculations of audio effects "better" than the CPU and further improves the Powertune Technology. GPU It equips a GPU codenamed Venus PRO which has 10 Compute Units activated and thus offers 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs. The Central Unit Initially Operates at 625MHz and goes up to 775MHz, in Turbo Mode. Memory The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of DDR3, through a 128-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is exaggerated and in no way benefits the GPU. The memory clock operates at 1000MHz. Features DirectX 11.0 Support (11.0 Hardware Default) and support for Crossfire, PowerTune Technology, Eyefinity, App Acceleration, HD3D, ZeroCore Power and other technologies. Power Consumption With a rated board TDP of 45W, it is suited for 17" or larger laptops. Performance Gaming benchmarks put its performance somewhat above NVIDIA's GeForce GT 750M. System Suggestions We recommend a Decent Processor (Intel Core i5 Mobile) and 8GB of RAM for a system with Radeon HD 8850M. |
