In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Gigabyte Windforce OC 2GB.

The GTX 1050 has a 502 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 690, but the GeForce GTX 690 has 216 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1050. As a result, the GeForce GTX 690 exhibits a 177.5 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1050. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1050 has a 502 MHz higher core clock speed than the GeForce GTX 690, but the GeForce GTX 690 has 32 more Render Output Units than the GTX 1050. As a result, the GeForce GTX 690 exhibits a 13.3 GPixel/s better Pixel Fill Rate than the GTX 1050. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GTX 690 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 1050, and so the GeForce GTX 690 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 1050 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GeForce GTX 690 has 2048 MB more video memory than the GTX 1050, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GeForce GTX 690 also has superior memory performance overall.

The GeForce GTX 690 has 271.9 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1050, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GTX 690 is massively better than the GTX 1050.

The GeForce GTX 1050 Gigabyte Windforce OC 2GB has 640 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 690 has 3072. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1050 is 1323 and the actual shader performance of the GeForce GTX 690 is 3130. The GeForce GTX 690 having 1807 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the GeForce GTX 690 delivers a massively smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the GTX 1050.

The GTX 1050 transistor size technology is 14 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GeForce GTX 690. This means that the GTX 1050 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GeForce GTX 690.

The GeForce GTX 1050 Gigabyte Windforce OC 2GB requires 75 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 690 requires 300 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 300 Watts for the GTX 1050 and a PSU with at least 650 Watts for the GeForce GTX 690. The GeForce GTX 690 requires 225 Watts more than the GTX 1050 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GeForce GTX 690 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 1050.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
The GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC 2GB edition by Gigabyte is a overclocked version of Nvidia's lower end graphics card, designed to compete against AMDs more affordable gaming cards like the RX 460 or RX 470 and expected to replace the outgoing GTX 960. This card features dual blade Windforce cooling, an overclocked core speed, a back plate and 2 extra HDMI ports.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for twice as much performance as the Maxwell Architecture and Introduces support for Second Gen HBM.

GPU
It equips a GPU Codenamed GP107-400 which has 5 SM activated and thus 640 Shader Processing Units, 40 TMUs and 32 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1417MHz and goes up to 1531MHz with the Boost Clock in OC mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 2GB frame buffer of fast GDDR5, through a 128-bit memory interface, while the memory clock Operates at 3504MHz which is outstanding.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 75W, due to extra features this card requires a 6-pin power connector in order to function.

Performance
The GTX 1050 Windforce OC will enable mid level graphics performance on modern AAA 2016 released games. Although there will be variations on this frame rate we expect this card to deliver around 53+ FPS on medium graphics settings at a 1080p screen resolution.
Comparatively, this card will have slightly faster performance than the GTX 960.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC is best suited for resolutions up to and including 1920x1080, so our recommendation would be to use 1600x900 in order to get the most out of your settings. We recommend a high-end processor such as the i5-6500 and 8GB of RAM for optimal performance.
GeForce GTX 690 is a dual-GPU graphics card solution of two GeForce GTX 680 (not SLI) and part of the 600 Series released by NVIDIA in 2012.
As usual and a hindrance of dual-GPU graphics cards, the clock frequencies had to be reduced. However, NVIDIA managed to almost double-cross this problem by developing Turbo Boost technology that sets the GPU's core clock from 915 to 1019MHz. The other specs, such as the number of cores, memory speed, and memory bandwidth per GPU are the same on both cards.
The Performance is mind-blowing and indicated for gamers that use demanding technologies, such as Tesselation, paired with extreme resolutions and on games already Very Demanding from the start, such as Metro 2033 and The Witcher 2. GeForce GTX 690 is less expensive and energy consuming than GTX 680 put in Dual SLI.
