In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition.

The GTX 1060 has a 563 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780, but the GTX 780 has 112 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the GTX 780 exhibits a 67.7 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1060 has a 563 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 1060 providing 27 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 1060 was released over a year more recently than the GTX 780, and so the GTX 1060 is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the GTX 780.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1060 has 3072 MB more video memory than the GTX 780, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GTX 780 has 91.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1060, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 780 is massively better than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 has 1280 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1060 is 3083 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 780 is 2438. The GTX 1060 having 645 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTX 780 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 1060 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 780. This means that the GTX 1060 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 780.

The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 requires 120 Watts to run and the GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition requires 250 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 1060 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 780. The GTX 780 requires 130 Watts more than the GTX 1060 to run. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 780 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 1060.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 is a Performance Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-400-A1 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU amd has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1569MHz and goes up to 1784MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2052MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 8-pin connector.

Performance
GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 is a high performance card that can handle 2016's AAA games at 1080p producing 60+ frames per second on very high settings and can maintain 60 fps on 1440p screen resolution, with only certain games needing a graphic setting reduction in order to preserve this fps at 1440p.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1060 Inno3D iChill X3 is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
GeForce GTX 780 Galaxy HOF 3GB Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 780.
This edition comes with a custom double fan cooling solution which will allow a reasonable performance boost from the start, as GeForce GTX 780 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 863MHz to 1006MHz while its boost clock is now of 1058MHz. The memory clock was left untouched.
Benchmarks indicate a 11% performance boost when compared to the reference card and so this edition performs slightly better than GeForce GTX Titan.
