In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC 6GB are noticeably better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition.

The GTX 1060 has a 538 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780, but the GTX 780 has 112 more Texture Mapping Units than the GTX 1060. As a result, the GTX 780 exhibits a 66.8 GTexel/s better Texture Fill Rate than the GTX 1060. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1060 has a 538 MHz higher core clock speed than the GTX 780 and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 1060 providing 25.9 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 1060 was released over three years more recently than the GTX 780, and so the GTX 1060 is likely to have far better driver support, meaning it will be much more optimized and ultimately superior to the GTX 780 when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1060 has 3072 MB more video memory than the GTX 780, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. However, the overall memory performance is about the same.

The GTX 780 has 96.2 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1060, which means that the memory performance of the GTX 780 is massively better than the GTX 1060.

The GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC 6GB has 1280 Shader Processing Units and the GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition has 2304. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1060 is 2995 and the actual shader performance of the GTX 780 is 2380. The GTX 1060 having 615 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the GTX 780 performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 1060 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the GTX 780. This means that the GTX 1060 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the GTX 780.

The GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC 6GB requires 120 Watts to run but there is no entry for the GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition. We would recommend a PSU with at least 400 Watts for the GTX 1060 and a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 780. The GTX 780 has been recommended a PSU with 200 Watts more than the GTX 1060. The difference is significant enough that the GTX 780 may have an adverse affect on your yearly electricity bills in comparison to the GTX 1060.

GPU Mini Review

Mini ReviewOverview
The GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC is a Performance Graphics Card based on the Pascal Architecture.

Architecture
It equips a GPU Codenamed P106-400-A1 which is a First Gen Pascal GPU amd has 10 SM activated, offering 1280 Shader Processing Units, 80 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

GPU
The central unit runs at 1518MHz and goes up to 1733MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
The GPU accesses a 6GB frame buffer of Fast GDDR5, through a 192-bit memory interface, while the Memory Clock Operates at 2002MHz.

Power Consumption
With a rated board TDP of 120W, it requires at least a 400W PSU with one available 6-pin connector.

Performance
The GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC is a high performance card that can handle 2016's AAA games at 1080p producing 60+ frames per second on very high settings. Reducing the settings down to medium/high will allow gamers to maintain 60 fps at 1440p resolution.

System Suggestions
The GeForce GTX 1060 KFA2 OC is best suited for resolutions up to and including 2560x1440. We recommend a High-End Processor and 8GB of RAM for Optimal Performance.
GeForce GTX 780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition is a special edition of the high-end GeForce GTX 780.
This edition comes with a custom triple fan cooling solution which by itself should allow a slight performance boost, as GeForce GTX 780 benefits from the GPU Boost 2.0 technology.
Also, it has been overclocked out of the box from 863MHz to 980MHz while its boost clock is now of 1033MHz. The memory clock was also increased to 1550MHz.
Benchmarks indicate a 8% performance boost when compared to the reference card.
