In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5870 are significantly better than the Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD was released over a year more recently than the Quadro FX 3700M, and so the Radeon HD is likely to have better driver support, meaning it will be more optimized for running the latest games when compared to the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Mobility Radeon HD 5870 and the Quadro FX 3700M have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The Radeon HD has 12.8 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the Quadro FX 3700M, which means that the memory performance of the Radeon HD is slightly better than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Mobility Radeon HD 5870 has 800 Shader Processing Units and the Quadro FX 3700M has 128. However, the actual shader performance of the Radeon HD is 280 and the actual shader performance of the Quadro FX 3700M is 70. The Radeon HD having 210 better shader performance and an altogether better performance when taking into account other relevant data means that the Radeon HD delivers a noticeably smoother and more efficient experience when processing graphical data than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Radeon HD transistor size technology is 25 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Quadro FX 3700M. This means that the Radeon HD is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Quadro FX 3700M.

The Mobility Radeon HD 5870 requires 50 Watts to run and the Quadro FX 3700M requires 75 Watts. The Quadro FX 3700M requires 25 Watts more than the Radeon HD to run. The difference is not significant enough for the Quadro FX 3700M to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Radeon HD.
