In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 SLI are significantly better than the AMD Radeon Pro Duo 8GB.

The GTX 1080 has a 607 MHz higher core clock speed but 192 fewer Texture Mapping Units than the Pro Duo. The lower TMU count doesn't matter, though, as altogether the GTX 1080 manages to provide 2.2 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GTX 1080 has a 607 MHz higher core clock speed than the Pro Duo and the same number of Render Output Units. This results in the GTX 1080 providing 77.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GTX 1080 was released less than a year after the Pro Duo, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

Both GPUs exhibit very powerful performance, so it probably isn't worth upgrading from one to the other, as both are capable of running even the most demanding games at the highest settings.

The GTX 1080 has 8192 MB more video memory than the Pro Duo, so is likely to be much better at displaying game textures at higher resolutions. This is supported by the fact that the GTX 1080 also has superior memory performance overall.

The Pro Duo has 383.5 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GTX 1080, which means that the memory performance of the Pro Duo is massively better than the GTX 1080.

The GeForce GTX 1080 SLI has 5120 Shader Processing Units and the Radeon Pro Duo 8GB has 8192. However, the actual shader performance of the GTX 1080 is 11978 and the actual shader performance of the Pro Duo is 6963. The GTX 1080 having 5015 better shader performance is not particularly notable, as altogether the Pro Duo performs better when taking into account other relevant data.

The GTX 1080 transistor size technology is 12 nm (nanometers) smaller than the Pro Duo. This means that the GTX 1080 is expected to run slightly cooler and achieve higher clock frequencies than the Pro Duo.

The GeForce GTX 1080 SLI requires 360 Watts to run and the Radeon Pro Duo 8GB requires 350 Watts. We would recommend a PSU with at least 600 Watts for the GTX 1080 and a PSU with at least 750 Watts for the Pro Duo. The GTX 1080 requires 10 Watts more than the Pro Duo to run. The difference is not significant enough for the GTX 1080 to have a noticeably larger impact on your yearly electricity bills than the Pro Duo.

GeForce GTX 1080 SLI is a solution of two GeForce GTX 1080 put together using NVIDIA's SLI technology.

Architecture
The Pascal Architecture aims for even more Energy Efficiency by using a 16nm FinFET Process and an Improved Version of the Delta Color Compression Algorithm, as well as the use of Second-Gen GDDR5X.

GPU
It consists of 2 GPUs Codenamed P104-400-A1 which, together, offer 5120 Shader Processing Units, 320 TMUs and 128 ROPs. The central unit runs at 1607MHz and goes up to 1733MHz, in Turbo Mode.

Memory
Each GPU accesses a 8GB frame buffer of Second-Gen GDDR5X, through a 256-bit memory interface. The size of the frame buffer is adequate. The Memory Clock Operates at 1251MHz.

Power Consumption
Power Consumption is around 350W.

Performance
At 1920x1080, Benchmarks Indicate a 25% Performance Boost over a Single GeForce GTX 1080. This goes up to 70% at 3840x2160.
